Meet the Team – James’s Q&A

In our Meet the Team series – we are getting to know James Soden a little bit better… and finding out he is a bit of a thrill seeker!

James is currently training for Tough Mudder raising money for the amazing  Super Josh charity – read all about the great work they do. If you can sponsor James please visit his Just Giving page. The Square Peg team will be supporting James all the way.

How long have you been with the Square Peg team? 295 Days 10 Hours 31 Minutes 36 Seconds and counting….

Why recruitment? If you’re passionate enough, It’s the most satisfying, roller coaster journey anyone can be a part of. Being in a position to open doors and present candidates with life changing opportunities is an amazing feeling – Especially when they are successful! When you pull the whole thing apart, as a recruiter, you have the influence and ability to make someone’s career and personal life a whole lot better! The thought of changing someone’s life for the better, to help them succeed personally and financially is what drives me.

What’s the best bit about your job? Be honest! I am a people person (or at least I think I am) Recruitment provides variety – No two days are the same and no two people are the same either. Better include the amazing team I work with in here somewhere!

…… and the worst? Keep being honest! Trying to diet and get slim but working in an office full of “feeders” does not help LoL. Unreliable candidates that mistake kindness for weakness.

You talk to a lot of people on a daily basis, both clients & candidates, what do you think are the key issues / hot topics for them around recruitment? Managing expectations and accepting reality.

Candidates: Trying to find a suitable place to work within their local vicinity that provides support, progression, flexibility with a good salary.

Clients: To be presented with a selection of candidates (today) who exceed all expectations and can hit the ground running.

If you were not in recruitment what would you be doing? i.e what vacancies would you be applying for?

Not sure what I would be doing or where I would be. I once saw a job advertisement for a Wing Rider with a Flying Circus air show! Always thought that could be fun and I am sure there must be some sort of danger pay involved…

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given? If you spend today worrying about tomorrow, you’ll never be happy.

What did you think you would be before you grew up? A Mechanic!

I grew up building, fixing and riding motorbikes, motocross, Pit-bikes and Quad bikes across fields.

I’ve had on road and off road bikes since I can remember. Also raced and displayed cars at various track days and events.

I like anything that gets the adrenaline pumping!!

Meet the Team – Kim’s Q&A

This blog digs a little deeper behind the scenes at Square Peg with a quickfire Q&A with Kim Taylor!

How long have you been with the Square Peg team? Just over 3 years

Why recruitment?  I like to have a big impact in helping people, in particular supporting candidates to obtain their dream job. I love delivering good news on successful interviews. I get the odd scream down the phone and tears of joy! It’s challenging though rewarding and crazy busy. Don’t let anyone ever tell you that it’s an easy job…..

What’s the best bit about your job? Be honest! The buzz of it. No two days are ever the same. Some days are a roller coaster ride though, working with such a great team, the satisfaction of finding solutions for people, and of course the potential to earn some good money. Oh and bacon butty Fridays are always a winner…

…… and the worst? Keep being honest! Unreliable people. People not being upfront or honest and not getting back to me after you’ve spent so long trying to really get to know them. I try and build the best possible relationships to minimise being let down. (For me & my clients)

You talk to a lot of people on a daily basis, both clients & candidates, what do you think are the key issues / hot topics for them around recruitment? Candidates – feeling undervalued in the workplace, recruiters really taking the time to understand their needs & keeping in contact, getting feedback and outcomes from interviews and job satisfaction. Clients – Integrity of candidates, employee engagement, staff retention, avoiding making a bad hire.

If you were not in recruitment what would you be doing? i.e what vacancies would you be applying for? I would be an interior designer……I have a passion for visual nice things and creativity

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given? Don’t wear flip flops in the rain!

What did you think you would be before you grew up? From a young age, I always wanted to be a hairdresser. I succeeded for over 5 years until I got introduced into recruitment by a friend of a friend. I decided to put my great customer service skills and helpfulness into a long term career into recruitment. I’ve never looked back and can’t imagine doing anything else right now!! Unless I won the lottery……

Hello Kim!

Say Hi to Kim Taylor our Candidate Manager. I have been working with Kim for some time and she is the long standing member of the Square Peg team. I asked Kim to write me a few words for the blog.

“I am eight years into my recruiting career with over two and half years at Square Peg Associates. It feels like home here with a great team around me.  I began my career as a Recruitment Resourcer , worked my way up to an Account Manager and I now oversee the candidate side of the business to ensure that the quality control and standards are  adhered to.  I’d say I am the organised one! I like to make sure I keep all the CRM systems up to date and on track.

I am extremely passionate about providing the best service to both candidates and clients, and I make it my goal to know as much as possible about our clients so I really know them and what they want every time.

Outside of work, I am a proud mum to my gorgeous son Freddie, I enjoy relaxing and watching the latest movies. I have a love for Italian food and anything which involves cheese. You will always find me tasting new ciders, Old Mout being a fave right now.

My claim to fame – I used to date a former Emmerdale actor. Can you guess which one!”

Hello Jemma!

Meet Jemma our Trainee Recruitment Consultant, we asked her to write a few words for the blog about her experiences with Square Peg.

“I’m loving the fast pace, buzz and satisfaction of placing quality candidates into great employers through Square Peg. I actually did not realise how varied and challenging a recruiting role would be and I am still learning something new each day – and still smiling! From completing college and achieving great success, I have moved forward from being a qualified administrator and P.A. into being a recruiter. I love going to network events, it almost doesn’t feel like work as I like to get to know people and what makes them tick. I know with the support and training from Suzanne and the team, my ultimate aim is to be a high achiever.

In my spare time, like most people, I endeavour to go to the gym frequently with friends, I drag them, they drag me sort of scenario and I’ll even do an odd 5k challenge for charity. I’ve become a bit of a home bird recently, having just moved into my first house and completely loving it!

The team ethic at Square Peg is really strong and we support each other, and we are a friendly bunch!”
